What is Shiitake?
Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is an edible mushroom with a rich, earthy flavour and a firm, meaty texture. Native to East Asia, it is one of the most widely cultivated and consumed mushrooms in the world. Shiitake grows naturally on hardwood and can be cultivated efficiently on sawdust-based substrate.

Why We Chose Shiitake
Shiitake is well suited to the climate and resources of Bhutan. Sawdust-based cultivation requires minimal space and supports consistent year-round production. It also aligns with Bhutan's 100% organic agriculture policy and creates a real opportunity for local growers to build a sustainable income.
